Blevins-Portrait.JPG

Originally from Rochester, NY, Margo Blevins received her B.A. from Allegheny College. She moved to Austin in 2012 and began teaching German classes at the German-Texan Heritage Society (GTHS) shortly thereafter. After teaching at GTHS for six years (including assisting with the rollout of the Goethe Institute courses) and regularly volunteering at GTHS events (Maifest, Oktoberfest, Christmas Market), she joined the Board of Directors in February 2019. Since coming to Austin, she has obtained an M.A. from the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas and is currently completing her Ph.D. in the same department. In the course of her studies, she has carried out coursework and research at Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen and Universität Potsdam. Since 2016, she has worked for the Texas German Dialect Project (TGDP), housed at UT Austin. Both the TGDP and the GTHS strive to preserve the history and heritage of Texas Germans, and to support educational efforts to bring that heritage to a wider audience.

Margo and her husband live in northwest Austin with their dog and enjoy spending time in nature and attending live theater. Margo also enjoys playing Japanese drums with Austin Taiko.
