GTHS ANNUAL MEETING & 30th ANNIVERSARY - AUGUST 22 - 23

The Annual Meeting and 30th Anniversary celebration of the German-Texan Heritage Society will be held on Saturday August 23rd at the Crowne Plaza Houston West Hotel in Houston. Come and enjoy the informative speakers, excellent entertainment, tasty food and wonderful shopping opportunities! View the program here. There will be a Friday night mixer at a restaurant nearby. Registration fees are $30 for GTHS members and $40 for non-members for Saturday’s activities and lunch. This year we have a special 'Bring a Friend' offer, so if you register with a spouse or friend, the cost goes down to $25 each for members and $30 each for non-members. SILENT AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED FOR ANNUAL MEETING

A Silent Auction will be held at the Annual Meeting in Houston this August and we would appreciate your help in donating new or estate items with a value of $20 or more - so start cleaning out those closets and garages! Keep in mind that all donations must be in good condition. You may also solicit gift certificates from businesses in your area. GERMAN LANGUAGE CLASSES FOR CHILDREN - AUSTIN

We offer fun and engaging German language instruction on Saturday mornings in downtown Austin for children ages 3 to 13. The Fall semester of Samstagsschule begins September 6th. Classes are held from 9:30 to 11:30 am and run for 12 weeks. Tuition is $150 per student for GTHS members and $165 for non-members. Discounts are available for siblings. Classes are held at the German Free School and at St. Martin's Lutheran Church. Continuing students can pre-register now. Registration for new students opens July 7th. ADULT GERMAN CLASSES - AUSTIN

Registration will open on July 7th for the Fall semester of Adult German language classes. Classes begin the week of September 1st and meet once a week for 12 weeks at the historic German Free School at 507 East 10th Street in downtown Austin.  Click here for more detailed information, and here for a registration form. WEEKLY STAMMTISCH

Mark your calendar for Thursdays, 12:00 – 1:00 pm at the German Free School building, 507 E. 10th, Austin. Whether you are a native-born German or just need to brush up your German language skills, you will enjoy this social lunch gathering of German conversation. RECIPES NEEDED FOR A GERMAN COOKBOOK

The German-Texan Heritage Society is collecting recipes for a German-Texan cookbook. If you have a tasty German or German-Texan recipe to share, please download our recipe collection sheet  www.germantexans.org/Recipe.pdf, fill it out and mail it to: GTHS, PO Box 684171, Austin, TX 78768. Please be sure to include a note with your recipe describing where it came from or how it got passed down in your family. There are specific instructions on the second page of the form.


GERMAN USED BOOKS FOR SALE 

A wide selection of used German books are on sale at the German-Texan Heritage Society. Fiction, non-fiction, classics of German literature, sci-fi novels, textbooks, health books, and much, much more. We have too many books and need to make room, so prices are very low. Stop by the historic German Free School at 507 E. 10th. St. (near Red River) and browse the books during our regular building hours. UPDATED: Make sure you tune into "Es Klingt wie Deutsch" German Radio at the University of Texas on KVRX 91.7 on Thursdays 8:30 - 9:00 PM for music and German-related issues in German! You can contact the DJ Erin Covert at erin.covert@gmail.com. Callers are welcome!.

UPDATED: Can't make it to the Stammtisch on Thursdays or if evenings suit you better, why not try a German-speaking group meeting each week on Wednesday at Dog & Duck Pub, 406 W 17th St, 512-479-0598. Wenn Ihr Zeit habt, kommt einfach vorbei. Wir werden uns treffen, wo man Platz finden kann. Danach reden wir auf Deutsch, und natuerlich trinken wir ein paar Biere:
