The
Robertson County TXGenWeb site at www.robertsoncounty.info has two major
collections devoted to Germans in this central Texas county. These include the following:
Camp
Hearne Collection at the Robertson County TXGenWeb site:
A
great deal of information about the Camp Hearne, Robertson County, TX World War
II German POW Camp is posted online at www.camphearne.info. Among the items are a burial list of POWs
interred at the Fort Sam Houston Cemetery in San Antonio, an in-depth website
produced by a Texas A&M University professor who is studying the Hearne
camp, a master’s thesis written about Camp Hearne & surrounding POW camps,
and other interesting materials.
New
Baden Collection at the Robertson County TXGenWeb site:
New
Baden, Robertson County, TX was founded as a Deutsch-speaking community in the
early 1880s. Information about this
community and its early European settlers (German primarily) is online at
http://www.rootsweb.com/~txrober2/NewBadenCollection.htm. Among the items is a rare manuscript
originally written in German by John George Meyer, founder of the colony, that
was distributed throughout Germany relating to this new American colony on the
International & Great Northern Railroad in central Texas.
